Went to Athens Hospital for a routine outpatient MRI. Registration was quick and painless. The check in process for my MRI was also very quick, the girl at the desk greeted me with a smile and was efficient with my paperwork. I never had to wait for registration. I didn’t have to wait long at the lab as well. It is always hard to find a vein for my bloodwork, but Karl, the phlebotomist, did a great job when drawing my blood. As with all in the lab, he friendly, kind, and professional. I make a point to go to Athens-Limestome Hospital to get any bloodwork done no matter which doctor orders it because of the medical staff.Patient Submitted Review

4/1/2025, 6:00 am, I arrived at Athens Limestone Hospital for lab work for my semi-annual physical. I was especially pleased with the lady that took my blood. Sometimes I pass out for that procedure. She readied all the vials and other necessary items. She reminded me of breathing and picture the waves rolling in at the beach. I completely relaxed; she was so professional, but very comforting with her continued talking and directions. It was suddenly over, I was fine and it seemed to only take a few moments. I am sorry I didn’t ask her name so I could publicly compliment her performance. My son was there for an MRI with contrast of his shoulder. They young lady in registration was very friendly and got him checked in quickly. The ladies at the Radiology sign in area were very friendly. Everybody in the radiology department were great. They completely explained what was going to be done and made him feel comfortable. He had appointment at 2pm to get contrast injected into his shoulder and a 3pm appointment for his MRI. Both were on time and we were out by 3:25pm. I'm an insulin dependent diabetic, I have been to MANY hospitals and emergency rooms, and the Athens-Limestone hospital was one of the best I have EVER used, with the kindest, most competent staff I have ever met. The level of care and concern you showed me in the Emergency Room and the ICU was unexpected and very appreciated. The staff were incredibly kind to my wife, letting her stay in the ICU waiting room overnight. I would like to especially thank my day shift nurse in the ICU, Maurice. I could not say enough good things about The Baby Place at Athens-Limestone hospital. From the moment we got there Friday morning at 5:30a.m. until we left Sunday around 3p.m. we were fully catered to. We were informed and every question we had was answered. They loved on our newborn baby, giving us parents time to rest before returning to our daily lives with two other small children. I have never been so happy to be there. The doctor, the nurses were so nice, they were always trying to help. I had a very rough back surgery. The first surgery they went in from the side. The next day they went in from the back. They put a cage around my spine, then the next day they put the pins, and screws. They treated me so good. If you have to have back surgery, I would tell you. I only had to stay at the hospital from 5:30am to 12:30pm, outpatient surgery. I didn’t have to stay there for two or more days to receive top level care. As much as we are impressed with a brand new, fancy hospital, there is something special about getting the best treatment at the hospital where your Mother or Father and your Grandparents went while they were starting their young families. The nurses and other attending staff are still proud of their work and do a great job at taking care of the patients. Everyone is kind and knowledgeable and quick to help you with whatever you need. Everyone was extremely nice, showed compassion & patience with a very slow moving patient. The young lady at the front desk, was awesome. I had to be there Monday evening & had to return Tuesday morning & she made me feel so welcomed & comfortable. The lady that took me for my MRI was super kind & helpful, the young man that did my CT scan was super great and extremely compassionate. He even sent me away with well wishes for a speedy recovery. Tuesday I went back for blood work & I was blessed with the sweetest young lady. She had me laughing before we even got started & considering how nervous & upset I was before arriving, that was a task that was not easy to do, yet it came natural to her & she made me feel like a friend that had known her forever. Third floor nurse Susan treated me so kind—couldn’t ask for any better treatment! Excellent, caring, attentive—the epitome of a perfect nurse! Sadly the admissions department was scrambling around trying to cope from a computer system outage, which threw everything behind with a full waiting room—Possibly due to the snowy cold weather, but they handled it well. I was in a bad state and he was so sweet and caring he never once showed any frustration with me lol that I am aware of. There were times I was being heavily sedated. I recently had one-day surgery at Athens/Limestone Hospital, and this was my FIRST experience with them for any surgery (although, I’m a veteran in “going under the knife” having had 50 PRIOR surgeries from 1985-2017 at various hospitals in the places I’ve lived). This was my 51st surgical procedure overall (from minor biopsies to major events & 6 cesareans!), and I have to HUGELY & PROFUSELY THANK & PRAISE the hospital, my surgeon, and all the nurses and surgical staff for the BEST, MOST PROFESSIONAL, CARING & COMPASSIONATE treatment & care I have ***EVER*** received. This was a surprisingly fantastic experience overall. From their incredibly proactive stance in disease prevention- to surgery, post-op care and discharge. Plus, they do MORE to PREVENT infection than ANY other hospital I have EVER been to for surgery or ER visits! They even swab your nostrils with iodine to kill any bacteria or airborne viruses you may have been exposed to before coming in! All the nurses were kind, attentive and efficient. My nurse landed my IV port in the vein the FIRST try (which is great for me). The pre-op process went smoothly and all aspects of my procedure were explained with clarity (and I prefer full exposure in medical terminology so I know exactly what I’m dealing with). And I simply could not have asked for a better surgeon-J. Patrick Boyett of TOC in Athens is a kind and understanding surgeon who made me feel well-cared for, calmed my fears, and instilled the sense that I could wholly trust him through my procedure. He was an incredible blend of professionalism and patient compassion. The pre-op nurse Dana was amazingly sweet. Bailee took excellent care of the pump for my legs. The recovery room attendant, Matthew, watched me & kept meticulous attention to my condition in every moment. They also provided a portable ice machine to minimize swelling since I cannot take NSAIDS due to serious bleeding & ulcers. My nurses were all fantastic and kind and made sure that I understood my discharge instructions and how to apply the machine. They also ensured that my daughter knew how to remove and attach my shoulder sling. If I ever have to have another procedure, I would choose Athens Limestone again, without hesitation! I am thankful for Athens Limestone hospital and the high quality care available just 5 miles away from my home. You know, without the nurses, the doctor wouldn't know what to do. Just remember, always. Be nice to your nurse, and you'll have a great doctor. Athens hospital, you got my vote. You know, I think I'd come to you way before I come to and Ic in AMC hospital in Florence, Alabama. I don't recommend them to my dog Athens. You are a great hospital in a facility. And super, nice? The staff were all grade A. My stay was as pleasant as you'd expect in anyone being hospitalized. I'm sorry but I have one complaint an its entirely directed at the personal that brought me my meals. There was glucerna on every tray when I asked if I could exchange the vanilla for chocolate they took the glucerna and assured me they'd be right back with my request to get chocolate flavored. Not once did anyone return in my stay of over 48 hrs. I was quite ill an that small request didn't seem to much to ask but I guess in their eyes it was. I went for blood draw and my experience seems a little Angelic, meaning I’m feeling no fear for the next time. I was treated so very kindly despite my anxiety over the blood draw. I’ve had experiences in the past that have caused me fear. My technician was a girl named Lynda. She questioned me and she listened to me even through my anxiety, and it happened to seem easy for her. I barely knew what she was doing and was surprised when I looked down to see three vials laying on the platter full of blood I never felt. There was an older lady in there with short blonde hair about right at her shoulders who held my hand during the arthogram because my mom wasn’t there and it made a world of difference. Had to get a standing order renewed. Doctor's office had sent new order but hadn't listed the diagnoses code. Admissions office called the doctor's office to have them fax it over. When she received the fax, the code was still missing. I offered to take the order over to get the code put on and she arranged that with the doctor's office. I appreciated her taking care of all of this expediently. She was also very nice and so helpful. When I did get my bloodwork done, the lab was fast and courteously. Had a 2 part spinal fusion surgery and stayed for 4 days. Blake Boyett, Cassidy Koonce, and the anesthesiologist as well as their teams did a fantastic on keeping me informed and helping calm my nerves. They were fast and efficient, also very friendly. Really appreciate the entire staff at Athens Limestone, the nursing students, techs, nurses, doctors, everyone. My mother-in-law broke her femur on a trip through Alabama, and you were the shortest ambulance ride. You stabilized her, placed screws and a plate in her leg, cared for her post-op and made sure she was ready for a transfer back to her home in Indiana 6 days later, always with evident care for her wellbeing and comfort. I don’t normally leave reviews, but this was the first time I have ever gone through the emergency room and was actually treated like a person. I ended up coming through back in June after a horrible freak accident fishing. I nose dived a concrete slab under water at the river while fishing and swimming with my children. The staff here was hands down amazing! They had me back within 5 minutes of me walking in the door, it didn’t even take another 5 minutes and they took me for X-rays of my neck and an mri. I ended up with a completely broken nose and a severe concussion, but I couldn’t have asked for better care. Initially I wasn’t in pain because of the adrenaline running through my body, but they made sure the minute I felt pain they were there. Colton and I believe her name was Amanda Whitt possibly were the ones caring for me. They were some of the kindest people. We need more people like them. They didn’t brush me off, they didn’t downplay my situation, and did absolutely everything in their power to make me comfortable given the situation. I had an obstruction in my esophagus. I went to the Athens Limestone Hospital Emergency Room. I was immediately processed in and within minutes I was seen by a nurse. This was followed up by a Doctor and then the on call surgeon. I was impressed by the professionalism and attentive care provided by the Doctors and Nursing Staff (3E). The procedure to remove the obstruction was explained to me each step of the way. I had confidence I was receiving top notch care. A HUGE thank you to the Athens Limestone Hospital ER staff. My Daddy, unfortunately, fell and broke his hip last night. The RN, Beka, has been absolutely wonderful with him and constantly made sure he is comfortable as he can be in this situation, and has been very efficient and quick with administering his needed medications. The first time I came to the ER, the staff that saw we were very compassionate and supportive. I told staff I have chronic pain, but I am not drug seeking (as most medical proffessionals completely disregard pain patients and judge them harshly). I explained that the pain I was feeling was different. They replied that they didn't think I was drug seeking. When my blood tests came back and told me I had Water Poisoning and my electro lights were seriously out of balance. They taught me about my condition and admitted me overnight to get a hold of my electro lights. I told the nurses in the ER how kind they were and that I didn't knnow why anyone would go to Huntsville Hospital while Athens Limestone Hospital was here.Patient Submitted Review

People die in hospitals. They suffer pain, discomfort and embarrassment, and must try to rest and recuperate in a strange environment. They share their caretakers with other patients and can never get the continuous, personal attention that they receive from their families at home. All hospitals, including Athens-Limestone, begin with that against them. That having been said, my family and I have used Athens-Limestone Hospital on many occasions, for life-threatening conditions, routine tests and minor emergencies. We have been treated respectfully and cordially on every occasion. We have never left the hospital disappointed in the diagnoses or the treatments that we received, and I credit them with life-saving actions on at least two occasions. I do not doubt that some people have had bad experiences with the hospital, but we have not. Thanks to the administrators, doctors, and staff.
