VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

Thank you for your interest in our volunteer opportunities at ALH! Whether you are looking for college service hours, to engage in the healthcare field or are seeking to serve your local community, we want to connect passionate people with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Our program is divided into groups based on intended purpose:

ADULTS

College students and older

AMBASSADORS

Limestone County/Athens City high school juniors & seniors

CHAPLAINS

Ordained ministers

SUMMER

High school juniors and college students

Volunteer positions are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications are individually reviewed and assessed. While a specific placement cannot be guaranteed, applicant preference will be taken into consideration.

Some of the areas where volunteers serve include:

GUEST SERVICES

Driven by patient or visitor interaction; ideal for the volunteer who enjoys interacting with others

CLERICAL SERVICES

Centered around file management, data entry and directly assisting unit directors/managers; ideal for volunteers who like being “behind the scenes”

EVENT SERVICES

Focused on outreach and fundraising events that connect the hospital to the community; ideal for volunteers who enjoy networking and collaborating with others

ONBOARDING PROCESS

ONLINE APPLICATION SUBMISSION

Individuals interested in volunteering will complete an online application.

APPLICANT CONTACTED BY SERVICE EXCELLENCE

Applicants will be contacted by the Service Excellence Department. For Ambassadors, an interview is required. Volunteers will be selected based on skills, availability and the current needs of the hospital. If the applicant accepts, they will complete all necessary onboarding paperwork and be matched to their placement by the Service Excellence Director. Applicant preference is taken into consideration but an exact placement cannot be guaranteed. Ambassadors will self-schedule upon program start.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED

Volunteers are required to visit Employee Health to complete requirements for participation.

ORIENTATION SCHEDULED

Volunteers are required to attend an orientation session (annual education will be required for all subsequent years to maintain eligibility). Volunteer badges will be given upon orientation completion.

SCHEDULED SHIFTS BEGIN

Once all requirements for participation have been completed, the volunteer may be placed on the schedule, indicating location and task. A member from the assigned department will train the volunteer on their first day.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION

All persons interested in volunteering must be at least 16 years of age and are required to complete a volunteer application, complete a brief interview to better understand interests and availability, as well as complete a background check (ambassadors and summer volunteers are excluded from this requirement). Volunteers accepted into the program will also be required to attend orientation and meet all employee health requirements. The applicant will be expected to accept, understand and respect the confidential aspects of their assignment. For a complete list of requirements, please refer to the Volunteer Handbook.
